WORD FOR WORD
"I asked some of the composers that are pretty prominent here on
Broadway to write songs for me in the genre so they would fit on the
album. I think it is really important as an artist to promote our
young talent in the composing field. So I was glad that, for
example, Dick [Scanlan] and Jeanine [Tesori] wrote "The Girl in 14G"
for me, which enabled me to use a lot of my different voices."

NEW AND NOTABLE
"Bat Boy: Original Cast Recording"
As far as we know, "Bat Boy" is the only musical to have been
inspired by a tabloid headline about a half-boy-half-bat found in a
West Virginia cave. Composer-lyricist Laurence O'Keefe came up with
catchy songs that owe a lot to late 1960s and early '70s rock
musicals, skillfully walking the thin line between over-the-top camp
and real emotion.
"Come Dream With Me"
At the tender age of 23, Jane Monheit returns as the stunningly
gifted retro mistress of jazz vocalism on "Come Dream with Me." It's
a treasure of richly felt interpretations and torchy--but never
"42nd Street (2001 Revival Broadway Cast)"
Believe it or not, "The Producers" didn't take away all this year's
Tony awards. Selected as Best Musical Revival in the 2001 Tonys,
"42nd Street" stars Christine Ebersole, who also picked up the award
for Best Leading Actress in a Musical. At last, the 2001 revival
cast recording has been released.
"Classic Julie Classic Broadway"
Here's a collection of favorite selections by one of Broadway's
true classic voices, Julie Andrews. The anthology covers chestnuts
by Lerner and Loewe and Rodgers and Hammerstein, including
"Guinevere," "I Could Have Danced All Night," "Getting to Know You,"
Nat King Cole
"Night Lights" is the previously unreleased 1956 Nat "King" Cole
album featuring arrangements by Nelson Riddle. Funny thing is, this
album wasn't totally lost; we know many of these tunes as hit
singles, including the title track, "Too Young to Go Steady," and "I
Just Found Out About Love." With this release, Cole fans can hear
the rest of these charming sessions in their complete glory. In all,
you get a dozen previously unreleased tracks.
HOT UPCOMING RELEASE
"Bells Are Ringing (2001 Revival Broadway Cast)"
Though the show itself didn't receive the necessary life support a
Tony win might have conferred, the revival of Comden and Green's
classic bonbon "Bells Are Ringing" will soon be available in its
2001 cast recording incarnation, starring Faith Prince and directed
by Tina Landau.
SARAH BRIGHTMAN: WHITER SHADE OF "LA LUNA"
"Whiter Shade of Pale [CD-SINGLE]"
Superstar crossover vocalist Sarah Brightman greets the new
millennium with a bolder grasp of her musical niche on "La Luna," a
concept album only in a free-associative sense. The concert version
is now available on DVD, and a remix album of "Whiter Shade of Pale"
has just been released.
